Locked on Chiefs - Playoff road ends as KC wheels come off

That would be kicker Chris Boswell, who nailed six field goals (an National Football League postseason record) to lead Pittsburgh to a gritty 18-16 divisional round victory at Arrowhead Stadium Sunday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The loss continues the Chiefs' divisional-round suffering.

"With the ref literally taking it out of our hands, that hurts", Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce said. This will be the fifth meeting between the teams since Haley was sacked in Kansas City, and the Steelers are 3-1 against his old team, all in the regular season, including a 43-14 victory on October 2.

Oh, and this matchup with the Steelers (12-5) will be at loud Arrowhead Stadium rather than Heinz Field, and a spot in the AFC title game awaits the victor.

New England QB Tom Brady finished off a great (yet shortened) regular season with 3554 yards, 28 touchdowns and just two picks, while RB LeGarrette Blount led the team on the ground with 1161 yards and 18 scores.

For the Steelers, they'll feel hard done by, as they will have done everything they could to win this game but will look on to next season, when they will have even more firepower back in their offense with the eventual return of Martavis Bryant from suspension.

The speech was delivered moments after Pittsburgh took an 18-16 victory over the Chiefs, propelling them to Foxborough for the Patriots' sixth straigth AFC Championship game - an accomplishment Brady says is "pretty cool". Since being blown out in week 4, the Chiefs have gone 10-2, and outscoring opponents by 85 points over that stretch. I don't want to be fined any money but I would tell you I was probably leaning the other way.

This is the same Bell who holds the single-game franchise mark with 236 yards rushing, achieved in Week 14 against the Buffalo Bills.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Kansas City Chiefs Preview
As measured by passer rating (152.5), Ben Roethlisberger had what was his best game of the season against the Chiefs on October 2. Expect Bell to hit a few metaphorical deep balls against the Chiefs , making up for the Roethlisberger mistakes predicted above.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are moving the ball but settling for field goals.

Speaking with NFL Network analyst Solomon Wilcots a few weeks ago, he wasn't anxious about the Patriots against the Steelers, or the defense facing Roethlisberger, considering the Pats have always had success against him.

"He is who he is", Chiefs safety Eric Berry said. The Pats, after all, already had a day on them. They'll be talking about missed opportunities for a long time here, most specifically the surgical drive quarterback Alex Smith led in the fourth quarter.

But the Chiefs weren't done yet.

The lack-of-urgency issue was again on display on the Chiefs' final drive tonight, when they took 7:06 to run 13 plays for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Atlanta vs. Green Bay should be a dream come true for fans who love offense, and I love that one of those high-powered clubs will end up in the Super Bowl. Having received the ball with 9:49 remaining, they scored with 2:43 left. They just needed to force a punt, and convert a field goal, and they'd get the win. Roethlisberger completed a clutch third-down pass to Antonio Brown that could have got the Chiefs off the field, and proceeded to run out the clock from there to set up a showdown in New England, ruin the Chiefs' Super Bowl hopes and extended the Chiefs' divisional-round misery.

Aside from an extra week's rest, what earning the first-round bye did was give the Chiefs home-field advantage.
