Protesters block DeVos from entering DC school

The Washington Teacher's Union organized a gathering outside the school, but were not among the protesters who blocked her.

Things got heated as DeVos tried to enter the building through a back door.

When she headed toward the school's entrance, the protesters stood in front of her, video from CNN affiliate WJLA showed.

Critics of DeVos have accused her of buying her spot by donating generous amounts of campaign contributions to Republican senators.

"You should be so proud of yourself", he said, before shouting, "Shame!" The same man yelled "Shame".

A group of adamant protesters on Friday did what Democrats failed to do: Block Betsy DeVos.

While inside, DeVos met with teachers, the school's principal and the chancellor of D.C. public schools, in addition to touring the classrooms.

The protesters outside of the Washington school clashed with police as DeVos arrived with her security detail.

"Report that @BetsyDeVos was assaulted is under investigation", the account tweeted.

And if people are pretty serious about running for school board, according to Great!Schools, it is important for them to have a head start and get familiar with the local school board by attending public meetings held in their area.

"This is a sad day for children", the American Federation of Teachers president said in a statement following DeVos's confirmation.

After her visit, DeVos told the media: "It was really wonderful to visit this school, and I look forward to many visits of many great public schools both in D.C. and across the country".

"We believe students deserve learning environments that foster innovation and curiosity, and are also free from harm", Devos said seriously at a later point in her address. She did not send her kids to public school.
