UConn women's basketball goes for 100th straight win tonight

Winners of the last four NCAA championships, the top-ranked Huskies notched their latest historical achievement Monday night, when they cruised to a 66-55 triumph over No. 6 SC in Storrs, Conn.

Williams, a former Nevada prep track and basketball standout, best symbolizes this seamless transition from the Breanna Stewart era. I'd like to see a lot more emphasis on individual players and their achievements in addition to the team.

Williams rose to the occasion and took her game to another level as she almost finished the first half with a double-double.

"It was really just a bad feeling", Williams said. They consistently are at another level - at steamroller with a Hemi. And rather than criticizing them and picking apart their every move, it's time to appreciate everything UConn has accomplished.

When Connecticut beats whoever shows up for the national championship game on April 2 at American Airlines Arena, it will mark the Huskies' 5th straight NCAA title and sixth undefeated season.

For Williams, the game nudged her.

I will say that as more women become presidents, I hope they value women's college athletics as much as [Connecticut has].

Herbst: I don't know.

Protesters Block Betsy DeVos From First Visit to Public School
Collins and Murkowski said they feared her focus on charter schools will undermine remote public schools in their states. She was joined there by D.C. schools Chancellor Antwan Wilson, who recently left the top job at Oakland Unified.

"For this team to do it given where we started and where people projected us to be", continued Auriemma, "given who we had coming back and given who everyone else coming back. for them to do it I think is very appropriate".

Without question, it was the Huskies' best performance of the season. It is familiar to those students who waited to see history (and, yes, get some face time on national television), even though some weren't old enough to have firsthand memories of the Bird highlights that played in the arena. Who be the defensive stopper?

Nurse, UConn's third-leading scorer and player who usually draws the other team's top perimeter player, only lasted 1:47 into the third quarter due to an apparent ankle injury before being subbed out. It was the amount of coverage we had and how many people were watching the game.

For 18 minutes of the first half, it was nip and tuck, as SC stayed up to pace with UConn, remaining within a point of the Huskies. Someday Geno Auriemma will step down, and women's college basketball will be just fine.

UConn has done it twice. Auriemma needs to be discussed as one of the greatest coaches ever.

"Do I wish it was us?" He sat her for much of the first half against Tulsa earlier this month, saying she seemed out of sorts. There's nobody in the country that does what she does when she's on. Partly, this is the result of the fact that the four-year scholarship is still meaningful in the women's game, so that Auriemma has been able to build a culture and ingrain habits from class to class. "A big win like this against a really good team in an awesome environment".

Williams admits she can be tough on herself. Byron Nelson winning 11-straight PGA Tour events, Martina Navratilova winning 74 consecutive matches, Wayne Gretzky scoring in 51 consecutive games and even the Mount Union Purple Raiders winning 112-straight games in Division III all deserve their moment.

So much went right for SC.
