But once again, he misjudged his player's value, which nearly certainly will not rise in the remaining 26 games of the season.

Noel's fit in the rotation could be tricky early because of how Harrison Barnes has thrived in his first season with the Mavericks in Dirk Nowitzki's spot at power forward with the 7-foot German playing more center.

Ersan Ilyasova netted the Sixers two seconds. If it doesn't convey in this year's draft, the Sixers instead get Dallas' second-round picks in 2017 and 2020.

Frankly, it is a bit of a curious trade for the 76ers. He was exactly the veteran that the Sixers needed.

Surely that rate isn't bringing home any championships, but it does illustrate the major problem the Sixers have, and the biggest flaw in The Process: The team is almost twice as good when Okafor doesn't play.

So why pay that money now to Noel, on a bad Sixers' team, when it would be better spent on players who can fill those supporting roles in the future?

Some of the marquee players who were the subject of trade speculation in the build-up to the deadline ended up staying put.

The 32-year-old Bogut was limited to 26 games by injuries but ended up coming off the bench when he was healthy.

To say I am not a fan of "The Process" of the Philadelphia 76ers would be an understatement. The Mavericks are known for having a good training staff, but Noel's left knee seems determined to test their abilities. Dallas is sending center Andrew Bogut, guard Justin Anderson, and a conditional first round pick to the 76ers in exchange for forward/center Nerlens Noel.

The 76ers are expected to buy out Bogut, who is in the last year of a three-year $US36 million contract.

The first-round pick the Sixers acquired from Dallas is a top-18-protected selection in the 2017 draft. Woj goes on to report that the Mavs and Noel will be working on an extension and that Dallas has coveted the big man for quite some time leading up to the trade. This was more of a case of the Sixers taking an expensive contract off the Mavericks' hands.

So, given the return, the only explanation for Thursday's deadline trade of Noel to the Mavericks was that the Sixers definitively concluded they did not want to match a high salary for Noel. He tells ESPN that he's may request a buyout if he's not traded to another team.
