A 22-year-old woman in MS is in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody after she spoke during an immigration news conference.

Ramiro Orozco, an immigration attorney based in Jackson who coordinated Wednesday's news conference, said he believed ICE agents detained Vargas to retaliate against her for speaking out about Dreamers.

DACA, which allows people who entered the country as minors to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and eligibility for work, was launched by President Barack Obama in 2012 but Trump has suggested he will keep it.

At the news conference, Vargas said that after the arrest of her brother and father, she was planning on moving out of the state and go to college to be a math professor.

Vargas' brother and father were detained by ICE outside their home last month.

As a friend drove Vargas away from the news conference, their vehicle was pulled over by ICE agents, Peterson said.

"It's very normal for a client to get a hearing date two and a half or more years in the future", she said."Cleveland is one of the more backlogged courts in the United States". Police Chief Keith Vogel said ICE officials told him the raid would strictly target suspected gang members, but others were detained and removed simply due to their immigration status.

The news conference was hosted by local immigration attorneys, churches and the Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance to bring attention to families impacted by deportation. "I feel like a pingpong ball in the national game of immigration", he said of the changing federal policies. Upon completion of training, those officers would be able to investigate arrest and detain undocumented immigrants they encounter on the job.

All immigration cases in OH are handled by the federal court in Cleveland, which saw both deportations and asylum actions drop dramatically during the eight-year tenure of President Barack Obama.

Securing the border and enforcing immigration law are priorities of the administration of President Donald Trump, but testifying before the Senate? Last week, ICE agents detained 55 people on what were described as immigration-related charges as they executed criminal search warrants at a string of Asian restaurants in the central part of the state.

'Why they would move forward the way they have is, honestly, mind-boggling, ' she said.

Trump's tough tone on immigration during the campaign and arrests of undocumented immigrants in several states in February prompted fears that ICE was beginning to crack down on immigrants in the US illegally - the agency has said the enforcement actions were routine and not connected to the Trump administration.

Claire McCaskill, the ranking member on the panel, wrote Thomas Homan, the acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement director, on February 22, to request testimony.

"Essentially the stance we've taken is we will continue business as usual", Breckenridge police chief Dennis McLaughlin said. "But over the last week-and-a-half, most of our bond hearings are from Alabama", Scott, who defends immigrants from Alabama, Louisiana and MS, said.

"That program is never going to happen in Chelsea", said Kyes.

Many Alabama immigrants are concerned about what Scott calls "collateral arrests", in which ICE agents arrest undocumented people who they come into contact with in the course of raids targeting other individuals.
