HBO PPV Weigh-ins: 'GGG,' Jacobs on Point for Crucial Middleweight Unification

The judges scored the fight 115-112, 115-112 and 114-113 for Golovkin.

For Jacobs, he's already a world champion and somebody who has beaten the biggest challenge of all, but this is a chance for boxing supremacy, to beat the man many believe to be nigh on unbeatable.

Golovkin's 23-fight knockout streak was snapped.

"I feel I have power [Golovkin has won 33 of 36 bouts inside schedule, 26 of them by halfway] and it is very important to me and I can feel the power in my punches. I have to continue to perform".

But I am expecting Golovkin to bide his time, punish Jacobs in the middle rounds and stop him in the 7th.

The victory early on March 19 in NY gave Golovkin the WBA middleweight title to go along with his WBC, IBF, and IBO middleweight crowns.

CHOCOLATITO. Roman Gonzales (46-0, 38 KOs) will be defending his WBC super flyweight crown against Thai Wisaksil Wangek. Golovkin landed the hardest punch of the seventh, a lead right that drove Jacobs backward, but the Brooklyn fighter shook it off and continued to outpunch Golovkin in terms of volume. The last time a professional fight involving Golovkin went to the cards, the date was June 21, 2008 in Denmark and the opponent was Amar Amari. Brooks wasn't a true middleweight and if Jacobs hits the sweet spot early, things could get interesting.

American Jacobs, meanwhile, had admitted that it a dream come true for him as he prepares to step out at the iconic venue on Saturday night. There will be no turning back for Jacobs once he gets Golovkin hurt.

Jacobs opened the second round in a southpaw stance and spent about the first minute fighting out of it.

It looked like that streak might end Friday after Oklahoma State opened the second half on a 12-5 run to take a 52-46 lead. The first possession on offense ended with him finding Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman under the basket for a layup.

Jacobs left NY for two months to train for this daunting challenge at trainer Virgil Hunter's gym in Oakland, California.

Heading into the 12th round it was anybody's fight.

Jacobs' lone loss prior to Saturday night was a one-punch knockout defeat to Dmitry Pirog 6½ years ago in Las Vegas. When the bell sounded Jacobs collapsed into the ropes. "I thought I won by at least two rounds minimum". "All I can do is be gracious in the decision". Golovkin came back soon thereafter to land a combination as Jacobs backed into Golovkin's corner. His style lends itself to crowd-pleasing exchanges in which he occasionally absorbs punishment but nearly always doles out more than he received.

"I understand my position in the game, in this fight", he told the Associated Press this week of his underdog status.

But after 19 months away from the ring, he made a triumphant return, capturing the regular WBA middleweight title.

Golovkin wins, and yes, he is still the best middleweight in the world.

The IBF forces its fighters to weigh in on fight morning.

Srikaset did what was necessary to take Gonzalez out of his comfort zone as an extended stay at the 115 pound limit prove too much for the previously undefeated title holder.

It also didn't help Golovkin that Jacobs blew off a same-day weigh-in required by the IBF.
