HELSINKI-A performance full of grace and technical wizardry proved that Evgenia Medvedeva will be the woman to beat at next year's Winter Olympics as the Russian soared above her rivals to retain her title at the world figure skating championships.

Another Canadian will share the podium with Osmond, as Ontario's Gabrielle Daleman took bronze with a score of 213.52. "I'm sitting (at the post-skate news conference) with two guys who have two quads in their short program, and I'm the only guy who was doing one". I think we just should support each other. US and Four Continents champion Nathan Chen was sixth with 97.33 points. I had to relearn all my technique.

The 21-year-old Osmond credited her success to "aiming for excellence rather than aiming for perfection" but her skating skills were no match for the poise or artistry that Medvedeva brings to the ice.

"When she broke her leg that time, and I watched her get back on the ice for the first day ... she skated as if she was just a two-year-old starting to skate again", she said. They last competed at the worlds in 2013. "It meant the world to me", the 25-year-old Fernandez told Reuters. That quickly turned to a broad grin of satisfaction with another impeccable skate, and a new record score of 233.41 points.

"I nearly never really truly believed in myself that much, and then over the last two seasons it just kept coming together", Daleman said.

She became the first woman to win back-to-back titles since 2001.

Since winning her first major title at the 2016 European championships by 5.46 points, the gap between Medvedeva and the chasing pack has been widening at an alarming pace.

SC may re-look its ban on sale of liquor on highways
A PIL had revealed that nearly 1.42 lakh people died due to road accidents in 2015 alone with around 400 deaths every day. The court said exempting them from the order will defeat the goal of preventing drunk driving.

Osmond, from Marystown, N.L., is in second place with a score of 75.98.

Long heralded as one of the most elegant men's skaters, Chan took a season off following his silver medal finish at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. "It's so nice to see finally that she does what she can do in practice".

"Knowing I wanted to be like Joannie since I was a little girl, and now that it's all come to reality, I'm just starstruck, I don't even feel like this is real life".

Virtue and Moir stepped away from competition for two years following the 2014 Olympics, and said their return this season has been invigorating.

"We knew that we were coming into a very deep and strong field so we needed to raise the level of our skating. But I still want to enjoy why I loved skating to begin with".

Two-time defending champions Papadakis and Cizeron of France, who train under the same Canadian coaches as Virtue and Moir in Montreal, are second with 76.89.

The Paed couple also promised to watch the Free Skating event in the weekend with a bigger Filipino group even if the tickets for the event are already nearly sold out.
