It's unclear who ordered the most recent strikes. But Haley reiterated her statements about further actions in Syria in her interview with Tapper. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says additional economic sanctions against Syria are being prepared.

At least six people were killed in the USA airstrikes, Syria claimed, but the Pentagon said civilians were not targeted and the missiles were aimed at a Syrian military airfield in Homs.

Syrian forces launched further air strikes on Saturday, which killed 18 people - including five children - in the rebel-controlled Idlib province, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the civil defence rescue service reported.

He said it had failed to prevent Syria from carrying out a chemical attack on the rebel-held town of Khan Sheikhoun last Wednesday which left 89 people dead.

G7 foreign ministers were on Monday to send a "clear and coordinated message" to Russian Federation on Syria as Washington upped the pressure following a suspected chemical attack in the wartorn country.

An arm of Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, meanwhile, issued a statement it said was on behalf of Russia, Iran and its allies, vowing to "reply with force" to any future aggression "in a variety of ways". Ed Markey rebuked Haley's call for regime change, saying that would require a major military effort on the part of the US. "I suspect you'll see more of him as he grows more comfortable in dealing with the press and in his relationship with the president and the administration's national security team", Cohen said.

CNN's Wolf Blitzer asked Gabbard if she didn't believe the President, the secretary of state and Pentagon officials, all of whom came to the same conclusion: that Assad's regime was responsible.

It's not the first time virtual assistants have been activated by the television - to the profound annoyance of users. And, they say, people won't stop editing the page. "I think it's going to backfire if it keeps happening", he said.

Haley's comments came after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told lawmakers he would look into stepping up sanctions on both countries, whose leadership supports Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who U.S. officials say is responsible for a chemical weapons attack against civilians last week.

Nearly 7 out of 10 people said Trump needed approval from Congress before pursuing further military action in the war-torn country, and 54% indicated they were uneasy with Trump's ability to tackle the Syria situation. In interviews broadcast Sunday, Tillerson said defeating Islamic State remains the top focus.

On Saturday British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson announced he had canceled a planned trip to Russian Federation because of fast-changing developments in Syria.

Blitzer mentioned that the United States military also shared an image of a radar track of a Syrian airplane from the Shayrat airfield flying to the purported chemical strike area Tuesday.

A joint command centre comprising the forces of President Assad's allies, including Russian Federation and Iran, issued a statement saying the USA strike had crossed "red lines". They're saying by covering for Assad that they knew that it was there, or they were incompetent by having chemical weapons there in the first place.

Third, the Assad alliance could undermine one of Putin's main goals for entering the war: to try to make Russian Federation a player on the world stage again as the indispensable broker in the Middle East.

Other than that, he added, "there is no change to our military posture" toward Syria.
