When we first saw that Mario Balotelli had replied to Brendan Rodgers' joke, we took a deep breath, expecting something probably provocative and potentially outrageous from the Italian... "Amazing", Balotelli said in a tweet dripping with sarcasm.

The German left him out of all the club's preseason friendlies, inspiring his agent, Mino Raiola to say that Klopp "was a piece of shit" about how he treated Balotelli.

The striker was forced to train on his own during pre-season before he joined Nice in a free transfer on deadline day.

Rodgers and Balotelli spent one turbulent season together at Liverpool in 2014-15 and enjoyed an antagonistic relationship.

And Balotelli hit back at Rodgers' comments on social media on Wednesday.

During a Q and A the former Liverpool and Swansea boss was asked by a Hoops fan, who the best player he has coached was.

The 44-year-old went on to claim that the striker, who spent a solitary season at Anfield, was a "fantastic player".

Thankfully, Balotelli didn't rise to the bait, and jokingly told Rodgers that he was in fact the best manager he's worked under, too! "I didn't get along with them".
