Tigers snap Rangers' streak at 10, beat Texas 9-3

The way Justin Verlander saw it, Texas may have been due for a loss.

That's why it was a great sign when Alex Avila - hitting in the No. 2 spot in the lineup Saturday, for the first time in his career - went deep in the first inning. Martinez missed his first game on the paternity list and Cabrera sat out a third straight game with an oblique strain. Nicholas Castellanos added a three-run homer in the third, and Verlander pitched seven solid innings to hand the Rangers their first defeat since May 8.

The Tigers are favored because they have Verlander on the mound, but I don't think the Tigers' ace is the answer tonight.

ROCKIES 12, REDS 6: Alexi Amarista hit a three-run homer and a run-scoring single during Colorado's eight-run rally in the sixth, and the Rockies extended the best start in their history with a win at Cincinnati.

"We'll wipe it clean and go out there and begin again", Griffin said. Kinsler departed after four innings with left hamstring tightness as a precaution, according to the team.

The last time the Tigers hit three consecutive homers was June 1, 2013, against the Baltimore Orioles.

The Tigers will be without Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez for much of the weekend. Castellanos made it 7-0 later in the inning with a drive to right. By the sixth it was clear the rising pitch count was starting to wear on him, with a home run to Jonathan Lucroy and a hit-by-pitch to Rougned Odor.

BREWERS 6, CUBS 3: Jett Bandy and Domingo Santana each hit a two-run single, helping surging Milwaukee to a rain-interrupted victory at Chicago.

Rays 9, Yankees 5: Corey Dickerson homered twice, and Tampa Bay won its season-high fourth in a row, beating NY in a game that included three hit batters, three ejections and one animated argument. Miguel Cabrera, DH 4. "We'll figure it out when it happens".

"They've been good a handful of years now and they're really doing it right now", Boyd said of Texas.

Although they were routed, the Rangers only had to use one reliever.

Mike Pelfrey (1-4) pitched six innings, allowing one run on four hits. After the game, Ausmus said he would be "shocked", if Cabrera didn't play on Saturday.

After winning eight-game homestand and picking up a ninth straight victory the Rangers travel to Detroit for a three-game series against the Tigres. RHP Tyson Ross (thoracic outlet syndrome) came out fine after a bullpen session and is set to pitch Tuesday for Triple-A Round Rock on a rehab assignment. Sean Manaea (2-3) allowed two earned runs in five innings. Martinez has hit a ridiculous.476 with five home runs and 11 RBI over that span. Detroit needs more from the rest of their offense in order to get back on track.
