Tornado watch issued for area

Lee, Collier, Charlotte, DeSoto, Hendry, Highlands and Glades counties are now under severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m., the National Weather Service said.

Laurens County is under a tornado watch until 6 pm today.

A localized area near Southern Pines and Wadesboro has an "enhanced" tornado risk, forecasters said. That warning expired at 10:30 a.m.

There is "some potential for hail or brief tornadoes with the strongest storms that occur, but considerable uncertainty on potential at this time, the National Weather Service states". Wind gust of 40 miles per hour were recorded at Leesburg Airport, and 44 miles per hour gust in Haulover in Brevard County.
