Firefighters are responding to a fire that has been declared a "major emergency" in Brentwood, California.

Five homes were evacuated when the fire started, but there have been no reports of damages.

The fire broke out at C&S Towing Yard in Black Canyon City, and people first began calling 911 reporting flames at about 11:20pm Saturday night.

Access was remote and hard, Stewart said, and no injuries have been reported.

Riverside County Fire officials say the fire burned 40 acres and is 50 percent contained. More than 100 firefighters battled the fire amid hot weather with light winds. Mandeville Canyon is located just northwest of the Getty Center. The fire scorched several acres of dry brush.

"While the fire did burn within 200 feet of structures, firefighters performing structural defense prevented any further threat and no homes are now at risk", the LAFD wrote in a statement.

The fire was entirely surrounded by a containment line as of 2 p.m., and crews were in "mop-up mode", with firefighting crews "knocking down smoke and heat in the interior of the fire", according to Seneca Smith, a spokeswoman for the Angeles National Forest agency.
