These cross-platform capabilities are happening because the Switch and Xbox One versions of Minecraft are being converted to Bedrock Engine which is a software foundation that powers Windows 10, VR and Pocket Editions.

Sad to say, the "Better Together" update is not coming to the Xbox 360 and Wii U, so players accessing "Minecraft" using these older consoles won't have the advantage of cross-platform gaming.

One of the biggest games in the world is doing something no game has done before: connecting all of its players, regardless of platform.

Then, anyone playing the game on Nintendo Switch, Windows 10, Xbox One, iOS, Android and Virtual Reality devices will be able to play online together.

But what does a unified version of Minecraft mean?

"We've wanted to integrate cross-platform for ages", Microsoft blogged, "essentially making a version of Minecraft that's consistent no matter what device you're choosing to play on".

In the fall of 2017, Microsoft will begin selling an a downloadable Minecraft extra, the Super Duper Graphics Pack, with cloud shadows, hazy atmospheres and reflecting water.

The game began its journey in 2009 as an alpha version.

Additionally, an update for Minecraft this year will add 4K support and more graphical options. Microsoft's aspirin will come this summer, though, when Minecraft will get a built-in server browser that makes servers easier to discover and use, said Minecraft marketing leader Emily Orrson. InPvP is the final launch partner with Mojang, which is a space themed PvP server with a bunch of minigames.
