Michael Smith, head of employee health and wellbeing at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Jo Cox was an inspirational MP and she worked hard to bring communities together".

"I'm really delighted everybody came together and supported so well such a diverse event, with so many people and groups".

THE family of Jo Cox have taken part in one of more than 100,000 events planned this weekend to celebrate the life of the MP who was murdered a year ago today.

Kilmarnock-born Thomas Mair shouted "Britain first" when he shot and stabbed the 41-year-old mother-of-two in her Batley and Spen constituency on 16 June last year during the European Union referendum campaign.

ON the very weekend that communities are encouraged to come together to honour the memory, and legacy, of Jo Cox, it is humbling that Bernard Kenny - the pensioner badly injured as he rushed to the aid of the dying MP - is awarded the George Medal for his bravery and heroism. Brendan Cox was joined by all four of Britain's living former prime ministers in paying tribute to the MP and the impact she had on the country's political discourse.

In her maiden speech to Parliament Mrs Cox said: "We have more in common that what divides us".

St. Peter's Church of which Knight is the leader of, will hold its "Great Get Together" on Sunday.

Speaking to CNN's Christiane Amanpour this week, Cox said he wrote the book for those "who wanted to learn more about her - people who felt she stood for something".

"If we can awake that silent majority we can force those extremists to the margins where they belong".

Mair was jailed for life after being convicted of her murder at the Old Bailey in November previous year.

"We have prayed God's Kingdom values of justice, love and peace and the Gospel of Jesus Christ might transform the hearts of people who would sow hatred and fear". A desire for unity and togetherness rather than the divisiveness of politics and the public debate in recent years.

"We spend so much time talking about the areas we disagree with each other on, actually finding a moment like this when we just get together with our neighbours and have a good time in parks like this and streets up and down the country, I think is exactly what we need".

"The murder of Jo Cox attempt to divide communities and to undermine democracy, but the response to the murder in the year since it happened has shown the British people will not be intimidated by such cowardly acts".
