Two terrorists killed an encounter in Srinagar, 3 Jawans injured

Two Army personnel were injured in the gunbattle this morning, the official said. The deceased was a sub-inspector of CRPF.

A gunfight started on Sunday between the security forces and hold-up militants in Srinagar, reportedly holed up in a private school, says Jammu and Kashmir police.

Sources said drone cameras and other hi-tech gadgets were used to trace the location of the militants but police officials refused to comment on operational details.

Even after the two terrorists were neutralised the joint teams of security forces were sanitising the entire school campus to rule out the possibility of another terrorist hiding in the area, as part of Standard Operating Procedure.

He said the operation was getting prolonged as the security forces want to avoid collateral damage.

Shukla sustained fatal injury when two militants armed with AK-47 rifles fired on a CRPF vehicle at Pantha Chowk area near Delhi Public School (DPS) in Srinagar on Saturday evening.

His attack left Congressman Steve Scalise , two others, and Capitol Police officers Krystal Griner and David Bailey , injured. Slater said that the shooting appeared to be "spontaneous", and that investigators had not yet determined Hodgkinson's motive.

This is the second militant attack on government forces in Srinagar in less than two weeks. Unconfirmed reports claimed that two Para Commandos were also injured during the operation.

The injured troopers have been shifted to the hospital for treatment.

The Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit owned responsibility for the attack.

Mobile internet services were suspended in the Valley to prevent the spread of rumours.

Fearing protests by the locals near the site of the encounter, the district administration in Srinagar imposed restrictions under section 144 CrPc from Ram Munshibagh to Sempora with immediate effect, last evening.
