In a competition annually dominated by the old, the tiny, and the hairless, the 3-year-old, 125-pound Neapolitan Mastiff used her lollygagging youth to win the 29th annual World's Ugliest Dog Contest. As veteran judge BRIAN SOBEL said, "It just wouldn't be the World's Ugliest Dog without BOB & SHERI".

Martha, who is three and a half years old, is a sight to behold. Also, both Zindler and Martha will be flown to NY and will take part in what the event's organizers referred to as "media appearances". This year's crop of contestants even included a balding, portly, snaggle-toothed mutt, all the way from WALES in the United Kingdom.

She was rescued from a Craigslist ad (of all godforsaken places) by the Dogwood Animal Rescue Project in Sonoma County, had several surgeries to correct her vision, and can now see.

Sobel said when they announced Martha as the victor, she laid down on the stage and remained totally unfazed by the photographers swarming around her. There were 13 contestants, mostly older and smaller dogs. The World's Ugliest Dog competition has few rules, but one of them is that the owners of the dogs that take part can not intentionally alter their appearance in the attempt to make them look uglier than they are naturally.
