United orders 100 737 Max 10 aircraft

With corporate offices in Chicago, Boeing supports airlines and U.S. and allied government customers in 150 countries and employs approximately 150,000 people across the United States and in more than 65 countries around the world.

United Airlines executive vice-president and chief financial officerAndrew Levy said: "The 737 MAX 10 will enable us to continue using larger and more efficient aircraft within our domestic network and better meet the needs of our customers today and into the future".

After years of booming orders driven by increased air travel and more fuel-efficient planes, passenger jet manufacturers are bracing for a slowdown in demand while they focus on meeting tight delivery schedules and ambitious production targets.

Industry sources said that Airbus would soon announce an order for 10 of its A350-900 wide-body jets from Ethiopian Airways, while it also looked set to clinch a US$5 billion deal with low-priced carrier Viva Air Peru. Fitch Ratings warned that orders for Airbus and Boeing could peak in 2018 or 2019.

United expects to begin taking delivery of the 737 MAX 10 in late 2020. Final assembly will take place exclusively at Boeing's plant in Charleston, South Carolina, making It the first of the company's commercial aircraft to be produced outside Boeing's historic home of Seattle.

The Chicago-based company said it was exiting the Paris extravaganza with 361 commitments from 16 airlines for its newest single-aisle plane, the 737 Max 10, only formally launched Monday. With aerodynamic improvements, Airbus said the aircraft would be 13% cheaper to operate on a per-seat basis from current models. Boeing won a red hot race for new business at the Paris Airshow, rolling out a new model of its best-selling 737 airliner that helped it claim back the order crown from rival Airbus.

Industry sources said Airbus would also soon announce a large order for its A321neo, as well as one for 10 of its A350-900 wide-body jets. He also questioned whether the introduction of a fifth member of the MAX family would allow airlines to preserve the value of their assets for possible resale - a key barometer of aviation finance that influences both old and new prices.
