Canadiens sign goalie Carey Price to 8-year extension

Getting Price's contract taken care of now helps the Canadiens avoid a major headache, since he was nearly certainly going to be the best goaltender on the free-agent market this time next summer. Kuznetsov had 19 goals and 59 points last season, giving him 53 goals and 182 points in 261 National Hockey League games. Yet despite three trips to the Eastern Conference Final since 2012, and an appearance in the 2014 Stanley Cup Final, Lundqvist and the Rangers have not won a Stanley Cup.

Price signed an eight-year contract extension with the Canadiens on Sunday.

Bergevin said it would be possible to sign both Markov and Radulov if they accepted the Canadiens offer, but he also made it clear that if one of them decides to sign, it will become more hard to sign the other.

"We made really, really good offers to these guys", Bergevin said. Vancouver also added defenseman Michael Del Zotto with a $6 million, two-year contract and signed goaltender Anders Nilsson to a $5 million, two-year deal to replace Ryan Miller.

The witness said she told the driver of the boat not to park in the area because there were children swimming the area. The operator of the houseboat, Jason Stuart Bernal , 44, of Killeen, was charged with criminally negligent homicide.

Price has been a linchpin for the Canadiens through his career in Montreal. While it won't affect the cap space they have today, now at $15 million, it still allows the Habs some wiggle room over the next year to make some signings and re-signings and still not be in the hole from a $10.5 million contract.

"There's no doubt we want to bring Radulov back to Montreal, but not on his terms", Bergevin said. Now, they have to save some money to pay their young MVP a lot in his next deal that will start during the 2018-19 season.

Such was Bergevin's choice, though there was no debate in the GM's mind which path he would choose.

"I'm no different. We'll manage it, and it makes the draft and our young players more important". Markov and Radulov are just the first ones to feel that impact.
