Mass. Air Force base resuming normal operations after earlier evacuation

The bomb squad was called to Hanscom Air Force Base after a suspicious truck was found during a vehicle inspection, CBS Boston reported.

At around 9 a.m. ET, security personnel discovered shut the gate, WCVB reports.

Sky5 flew over the area and saw a Big Foot Moving and Storage truck parked inside the closed gate. Those pallets will undergo more testing.

Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford has returned to normal operations after a bomb scare Thursday prompted a four-hour lockdown.

The Massachusetts State Police bomb squad was called in as part of the investigation.

Massachusetts State Police spokesman Dave Procopio said in statements that a "suspicious" moving truck and its cargo screened at Gate 1 "revealed indicators of potentially hazardous material".

"Given the times we live in, we operate in an abundance of caution", he told reporters, adding that there were no suspects or arrests and none expected. The side of the truck had the logo "Big Foot Moving and Storage", which is a local moving company.

The Air Force base has been in existence since 1941 and has served as a major military research center.

Media members were initially allowed close to Vandenberg Gate, but then ordered by uniformed soldiers to move back more than half a mile away.

A spokesperson for Hanscom Air Force Base said: 'There are no injuries, and responders are investigating the situation at this time. They have also closed the nearby exit from Route 2A and are asking news helicopters to refrain from flying overhead. A woman who answered the phone at the company's Acton headquarters said, "We don't know what's going on".
