Security stepped up across J&K ahead of Burhan Wani's first death anniversary

On Twitter, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Gopal Baglay hit back at Pakistan army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa for glorifying Burhan Wani, who was killed by Indian security forces on July 8 previous year in an encounter Kashmir's Anantnag district.

Official sources said that the government had given the go-ahead to the security agencies to take "legitimate action" against those Indian nationals who were working for Pakistan, including calling them formally for questioning.

"Police have already detained hundreds of workers of separatist organizations and seized more than 500 bikes to thwart any attempt by the Hurriyat to mobilize people on July 8", they said.

The two nuclear-armed rivals have fought two of their three wars over Kashmir, which both claim in its entirety, since gaining independence from British colonial rule in 1947.
