NY to DC in 29 minutes? It's time to get 'hyper'!

Musk said The Boring Company, an infrastructure startup he launched late previous year, will carry out construction of the underground tunnel.

Entrepreneur Elon Musk on Thursday said that he had received "verbal government approval" to build an underground transport hyperloop between NY and Washington, although he did not say who gave the approval or how any such project would proceed. Musk said it would be better to have at least two or three-country coalitions striving to get there first and making the most progress.

At this point, it is unclear what sort of approval Musk has received and from whom.

That leaves us with the million dollar question: Who gave Musk the green light? It will take numerous hurdles before Musk can even begin drilling a hole; he would need approval from the federal Department of Transportation, not to mention the various states, counties, cities, and elected officials.

Shortly after Musk's tweet, de Blasio's press secretary Eric Phillips responded to Musk's announcement with his own tweet suggesting the mayor knows nothing of the verbal approval.

He recently started a project, the Boring Company, to build transport tunnels for the system, which he says would be far faster than current high-speed trains and use electromagnetic propulsion. The Boring Company is Musk's tunneling venture.

The statement also criticised Iran's support for the Syrian government and groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas . The measure in order to become law needs to be signed by President Donald Trump .

Musk's plans for the East Coast were met with skepticism, especially in New York City, where commuters there are in the midst of the "summer of hell". High-speed-rail linking the cities of the northeast has been talked about for decades, but Musk sounds like he wants to make it a reality. The system would also have stops in Philadelphia and Baltimore, Musk said.

Musk said that travelers would be able to use the underground tunnel to get from New York City to Washington, D.C.in 29 minutes.

Billionaire Musk said the system would be "city centre to city centre" and go travel more than 300 miles from NY to Washington in 29 minutes.

Having lost his patience with legendary California traffic, Musk recently pledged to build a short tunnel from his office to the Los Angeles airport before building a network of tunnels throughout the city.

Musk described the first demonstration flight, which is expected to occur later this year, as "guaranteed to be exciting".
