IL unemployment rate up slightly despite job growth

San Bernardino County's unemployment rate surged to 5.4 percent during the month of June, according to data released on July 21 by the California Employment Development Department. However, the state lost 1,400 jobs during the month.

The June jobless rate came in at 4.7 percent, up from 4.6 percent in May.

Overall, Weld in June gained another 300 jobs in the mining, logging and construction sector - which includes the oil and gas industry - over the month, bringing year-to-date addition to 1,300.

Napa County has the fifth lowest unemployment rate in the state.

Other elevated rates were 6.7 percent in Imperial Beach and 6.3 percent within El Cajon's city limits. IWD also says job growth this year has been weak in Iowa, but the service, manufacturing, and financial services industries added jobs.
