Tottenham have agreed a club record fee worth up to £42m with Ajax for Arsenal & Chelsea target Davinson Sanchez as Mauricio Pochettino closes in on his first summer signing, according to the Guardian.

The Colombian worldwide has attracted lots of interest from the Premier League with Football London reporting recently that Arsenal and Chelsea had joined Tottenham in the race to sign Sanchez.

Spurs have endured a frustrating time in the transfer market so far this summer, but with Pochettino demanding at least four new signings, are now pressing the accelerator.

As it stands, Tottenham has paid £42 million for a backup but Vertonghen, in particular, has struggled with injuries so Sanchez should get his chance soon enough.

Tottenham have not added to their squad since the end of last season and have sold Kyle Walker to Manchester City.

Sanchez, who has signed a six-year deal until 2023, is Spurs' record signing.

United Kingdom seeks new Customs union after Brexit
The first choice would allow the Government to organise a new customs border with the European Union to reduce trade barriers. Verhofstadt - responsible for the European Parliament's Brexit approach - took to Twitter to criticise the plan.

Spurs are the only team in the English top-flight yet to make a signing and Mauricio Pochettino admitted that it was not an ideal situation going into the new campaign.

Having represented his country at Under-17, U-20 and U-23 levels, Sanchez was part of the Colombian Olympic team at last summer's Rio Games and made his senior debut in November 2016.

"Where can Sanchez play?"

Vertonghen joined in 2012, aged 25, while Alderweireld was 24 when he moved to Atletico Madrid and made just 10 league starts before moving to Southampton on loan.

Sanchez was absent in the last two matches of Ajax this season due to a "lack of motivation".

"Toby had to learn to be tough", Jol said. In the Premier League or La Liga, you have to be cynical, you have to be ruthless.
