Bangladesh vs Australia, 1st Test

Cummins ended the innings with figures of 3/63 from 16 pacy overs while spin twins Nathan Lyon and Ashton Agar, who was playing his first Test in four years, also took three wickets apiece.

Nathan Lyon has joined an exclusive group, becoming just the eighth Australian to notch 250 Test wickets.

The opening Test at Mirpur will be the first between the countries since Ricky Ponting's side toured the country in 2006, winning the two-match series 2-0.

But Lyon insisted that while Bangladesh had the momentum, the game remained in the balance.

"It's not ideal losing three wickets".

With two left-handers at the crease, Australia captain Steve Smith pressed off-spinner Nathan Lyon into service but Shakib and Tamim looked fluent against the slow bowlers. Bangladesh has some high-quality spinners that will pose problems for Australian batsmen.

That fact is spelled out by the list of leading wicket-takers since Lyon began his Test journey, a collective that is dominated by the five bowlers who have each claimed more than 200 wickets during that period.

"He's probably copped a bit from his Asian series where he hasn't taken those massive amounts of wickets", Starc said. We need to bat well, bat in partnerships and bat deep. "If our guys get into the mind-set that we went well in India, so we should be able to handle Bangladesh, then they will be in big trouble", Jones said about Australia's performance in Asia.

While much of the build up from an Australian perspective had surrounded Agar's return to the Test side, it was Cummins - another to make a stunning Test debut as a teenager - who stole the show early.

"But we have two very good batters out there - one is number one in the world [Steven Smith] and we have a very good young player in Matt Renshaw".

Young spinner Mehidy Hasan has been a revelation, while wicket keeper and captain Mushfiqur Rahim along with veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan have kept things in check for the Tigers.

As recently as the lead-in to Australia's tour to India earlier this year, where the 29-year-old pocketed his career-best return of 8-50 in the second Test at Bengaluru, questions were aired about his potency on Asian pitches, against the game's most accomplished wranglers of spin bowling. "I won't say in all conditions, but in our conditions, we are better than them", said Shakib.

In his next over he removed both Imrul Kayes and Sabbir Rahman for nought off successive deliveries to reduce Bangladesh to 10 for 3.

"I think the two guys batted very courageous", Lyon said.

Soumya Sarkar was responsible for a brilliant run out to remove Usman Khawaja for one in the next over, before left arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan dismissed nightwatchman Lyon for a duck.
