USA falls to Costa Rica 2-0 in World Cup qualifier

Even after a 2-0 home defeat to Costa Rica, even after Honduras pulled even in the points race for the last automatic berth, even with mounting pressure heading into the final three World Cup qualifiers, the USA national soccer team does not have to win Tuesday in Honduras.

Altidore said, "You have to give credit to them, they did exactly what we did to some teams, soak up pressure and hit them on the break". Tim Howard in goal and Geoff Cameron at center-back should bring enough steadiness to the US defense to allow their side to get a result. "Only in America", Howard said of the crowd. "It's really disappointing, but I don't think much will be missed".

Belgium is the first European team, besides the host Russian Federation, to qualify for the World Cup after their win in Greece 2-1. "Of course, the past year's been a roller coaster", Pulisic said. We have to move forward and prepare for Honduras. "We lost to a team that played better than us tonight".

It was a risky setup with Costa Rica bringing a couple of quality midfielders going forward in Bryan Ruiz and David Guzman with a packed-in defense behind them, though it wasn't an unreasonable risk to take. He made his first-team debut in January 2016 at age 17, and two months later was called up to the USA national team.

"I'm truly blown away with where he's at, where he can go", Keller said Thursday at Red Bull Arena. "We tried to force them down the wings, tried to limit crosses, and keep them away from our goal". And Friday's loss, the third in seven qualifiers, dealt a serious blow to those efforts, leaving the USA with eight points and facing two road tests in its final three games of the 10-game tournament.

The U.S. men's soccer team experienced a strong month of June, moving closer to security a berth at next year's World Cup in Russian Federation, when the team won at home against Trinidad & Tobago before getting a draw against Mexico.

Blind Snapper Olson Plays for USC
In 2009, at age 12, he learned he needed surgery to remove his right eye, which would completely cost him his vision. And now, he got into a game, an accomplishment greater than many sighted players ever achieve.

England laboured to a 4-0 win in Malta with three late goals to stay two points ahead in Group F from Slovakia, which comes to play at Wembley in a potentially group-defining game on Monday. But it is more likely the Americans will need points from their last two matches, at home versus Panama on October 6 and at Trinidad four days later. Panama plays T&T at home on Tuesday, and after facing the US will host Costa Rica on the last day of qualifying.

Back line: Geoff Cameron and Tim Ream had a subpar game in the central defense against Costa Rica.

"Right now Mexico and Costa Rica ... probably qualified", Area said.

When: Tuesday, September 5 at 2:30 p.m. Fabian Johnson, Michael Bradley, Darlington Nagbe, and Christian Pulisic spread across the midfield behind Jozy Altidore and Bobby Wood. Good to see he got time off from shooting Avengers 4.

Clint Dempsey entered the match in the 65th minute.
