Scott Baetens told WJBK that the dispute was over a notebook in the back-to-school aisle.

Customers and staff scattered after the gun was brandished, as can be seen in video capturing the chaotic scene shared by a bystander.

The incident occurred on August 28 at around 2:20 p.m.at a Walmart in Novi, Mich. Police say two women from nearby Farmington Hills, age 32 and 46, were doing some back-to-school shopping when they got into a confrontation with a 20-year-old woman and her 51-year-old mother.

"According to Detective Baetens, "(the mother) pulled out her firearm and tells them to stop attacking her daughter while pointing the gun at them".

"One girl was going to buy a notebook". There was one left.

It's not clear who got the notebook, authorities said. The gun was also registered in his name, said the police. While there, the unnamed 32- and 46-year-old pair came across another woman, 20, shopping with her 51-year-old mother. Initial reports say "witnesses described the two women pulling the younger woman's hair" would seem to indicate the women from South Lyon took the brunt of the punishment before the tables turned. All the same, he called the occurrence "a senseless act of violence all the way around".

"She's a valid (Concealed Pistol License) holder", the detective said.

In case you're wondering, the one who pulled out the gun ended up winning out in the notebook-off. All four women could reportedly face charges, depending on the findings of the investigation.

Police said the gun was loaded but no round was in the chamber. "All the way up to felonious assault with a firearm, which is a felony".
