Geelani told the media that the NIA had been "unleashed on the leaders of the local freedom movement" to break the people's resolve.

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman and Separatist Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik was arrested in Srinagar on Thursday, a day after he, along with two other top separatist leaders Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, threatened to stage a sit-in outside National Investigation Agency (NIA) headquarters in New Delhi.

The NIA on Thursday raided the house of separatist leader Shabbir Shah's aide Zameer Thakur in connection with the terror funding case.

The NIA conducted raids at 12 places in the Valley and at one place in Jammu city.

Meanwhile NIA also raided the residence of Hurriyat-G General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Sumji at Bijbehara in South Kashmir.

They said that the move was to counter the NIA's "harassment". The separatists have called for a shutdown on September 10 against the visit of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. "We will go to the NIA gate to protest", said Malik.

Occupational authorities apparently have arrested Yasin Malik to bar him from going to Delhi on 09th September 2017, to court arrest before NIA.

"During searches, FDs worth over Rs 1 crore, incriminating material, suspect financial records, property-related documents and electronic devices have been seized", he said adding the suspects were questioned about the incriminating recoveries made from them.

The NIA had registered a case on May 30 against separatist leaders for acting in connivance with militants of Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Toiba and other groups and woman separatist group Dukhtaran-e-Millat for raising, receiving and collecting funds through various illegal means including hawala for funding separatist and militant activities in Jammu and Kashmir. Among the arrested separatist leaders includes Gelani's son-in-law Altaf Ahmad Shah alias Altaf Funtoosh. Kamran Yousuf, the journalist was arrested along with Javed Bhat from Kulgam by the NIA. The officials have said that the seizures have caused dent to terror funding and sponsoring stone-pelting in the Valley which is evident from the fact that less number of stone-pelting incidents have taken place during the past couple of months and there has been a turnaround also in the overall ground situation.
