Amanda Nunes defeats Valentina Shevchenko via split decision

Nunes, who just destroyed two legends in Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate, had to deal with a pro-Shevchenko crowd, not to mention the toughest opponent she has ever faced, in winning a split decision victory that was booed loudly. Her nose is red from my punches and why did she steal [the fight]? The Kyrgyzstani rallied in the second, her output increasing dramatically as the champion invested too much in feints.

As quite possibly the most talented match in the short history of the women's 135-pound landscape, the fight may not have delivered the all-out, back-and-forth barnburner that many fans expected due to the fireworks of their first fight at 2016's UFC 196. But as the round progressed, it was the champion who began to take an edge as she stayed busy while keeping Shevchenko on the end of her strikes. But in this fight, I see more tactical, you can see on her face and on my face who landed more punches. It seems Nunes needs to get the stoppage in two to keep hold of the belt and defeat Shevchenko a second time.

"I want this fight and I totally disagree why this decision goes to the other side". Nunes continued to chop her opponent's lead leg, but it did little to dissuade the challenger from launching into the exchanges.

With the win, Nunes improves to 15-4; Shevchenko falls to 14-3. She didn't win the fight. Be that as it may, the Tiger Muay Thai fighter will do everything in her power to get back in there with Nunes to claim what she feels is truly hers. The 32-year-old dos Anjos has now won back-to-back fights since making the move to welterweight, having earned a decision in June vs. Tarec Saffiedine.

The card was supposed to feature Demetrious Johnson defending his flyweight title against Ray Borg, but Borg was forced out of the fight after coming down with an illness.

Round 5. Nunes comes in with a strong right hand.

Further down the card we have Sweden's Ilir Latifi taking on Australia's, Tyson Pedro, in a battle of rising light-heavyweights trying to find a foothold in a deep division.

The preliminary card is headlined by a bout between Sara McMann, a former title challenger, and Ketlen Vieira, while the main card will open with a bout between Gilbert Melendez and Jeremy Stephens.
