Tillerson said the USA had agreed to "expedite" delivery of F-18 Super Hornet aircraft, sold to Kuwait past year as part of a $10 billion arms deal, and both countries agreed to expand sharing of counterterrorism and border security information.

US President Donald Trump said he was willing to "help mediate" in the ongoing Gulf dispute and claimed he would have a deal worked out "quickly" to end the Saudi-led blockade on Qatar, a crisis he has previously taken credit for starting after claiming Qatar was a sponsor of terrorism.

However, the quartet of Arab nations now boycotting Doha issued a strongly worded statement early Friday morning dismissing some of Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah's comments, signaling the diplomatic crisis roiling the Gulf is far from over. He did not identify those countries, but in June he had made reference to Saudi and other Arab complaints about Qatar.

"Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt are all essential U.S. partners in this effort".

"While I do appreciate and respect the mediation, I would be willing to be the mediator", Trump told reporters at a joint news conference alongside the emir of Kuwait.

"The United States and Kuwait both recognize the importance of GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) unity, to meet the challenges of the region that we all face together", Tillerson said. "The hope has not ended yet".

Trump also promised the Kuwait leader of the USA support of the nation's meddling in the rift between Qatar and its Arab neighbors.

Trump also said he would be "very upset" if Syria's government uses chemical weapons.

"The press has been incredible", Trump reportedly told House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi during a phone call on Thursday morning.

"The Palestinians and Israelis, we are discussing, we are working. I think it's something that's going to get solved fairly easily", Trump said.

He has said that the Emir of Kuwait is now helping America in the Gulf and that "things are going well".
