Effingham County schools to close for Irma

Ware County School System officials are working closely with Emergency Management Agency officials to monitor the status of Hurricane Irma to determine what effect the storm will have on school schedules.

Richland County officers will be closed Monday, and the county has made the decision to open up a shelter for evacuees.

Administrators in Greenwood County School District 50, District 51 and District 52 will make a decision Sunday evening about school closings.

The county plans to close its offices Monday, when the area will feel the brunt of its impact from Hurricane Irma.

The Madison County School District will be closed through Tuesday, 9/12.

Many people are wandering around aimlessly, as they have no homes anymore and do not know what to do, Paul de Windt, editor of St. Irma is thought to be heading towards Florida where towns are being evacuated and people are preparing for the worst.

This decision is being made in an abundance of caution for the safety of our students, parents and staff as SC prepares for the impacts of Hurricane Irma. Our team and campus security are in continuous contact with local, state and federal agencies regarding Irma's progress.

Scott has said more volunteers will be needed and registration can be done HERE.

Florida SouthWestern State College will be closed through Wednesday.

Coastal Carolina University has cancelled all classes and activities through Tuesday, but the campus will remain open.
