Hurricane Jose lingers in Atlantic, will it head toward US?

Hurricane Jose is heading east at 5 mph about 450 miles north-northeast of Grand Turk Island, as of the 11 a.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

As for its forecast, hurricanes in this part of the Atlantic often race out to sea and into oblivion, but that won't be the case with Jose.

"Canada appears more like than the receive a hit from Jose at this point, but it is too early to be believer in these long-range model forecasts", Masters wrote in his Cat 6 blog on Weather Underground. Hurricane Jose, which is taking more of a northerly track, Hurricane Katia, which slammed into Mexico's east coast, and of course Hurricane Irma which made its US landfall in Florida.

Speaking to The Tribune yesterday, local Meteorology Department forecaster Ian McKenzie said Jose's three-day cone has it located to the east of The Bahamas in a projected looping motion. "But then eventually move westward late this week and then more northward this weekend". But forecasters warn that long-term forecasts are often off by hundreds of miles. There is generally not a dominant weather feature that is steering the storm, so model forecasts can vary widely between each other and from run to run. This is a common path for many tropical systems.

Because Hurricane Jose is so far from land, the National Hurricane Center has issued no watches or warnings yet.

Though it's been hours since Irma left the premises, there's already another Category 2 storm out in the Atlantic that's pointing ominously toward Florida.

Hurricane Jose had threatened some of the areas in the Caribbean, like St Martin and the Virgin Islands, that were battered by Irma only days ago.

Tropical storm-force winds from Jose spread over the islands on Saturday.
