Rate of Texans without health insurance falls, still tops US

"Having health insurance coverage, especially in a state where a natural disaster can turn your world upside down, is absolutely essential". Only the northeastern US, and some Midwest states were in lighter shades of blue, reflecting their relatively low uninsured rates. The lowest uninsured rate previous year was 2.5 percent in MA and the highest was 16.6 percent in Texas, the Census Bureau said.

The latest numbers from the Census Bureau showed the nation's uninsured rate dropped to 8.8 percent from 9.1 percent in 2015.

St. Peter said it is also possible that there was less of an increase in private insurance coverage in Kansas than there was nationwide. For instance, it allowed young adults up to age 26 to stay on their parents' health insurance plans and required most people to enroll in coverage or pay a financial penalty. MA continues to have the smallest percentage of uninsured residents in the country. Villarreal no longer accepts any form of health insurance. But in states that did not expand Medicaid, the uninsured rate was 11.7 percent a year ago.

We can be proud that the number of uninsured Wisconsinites has dropped sharply over the past three years, but 300,000 uninsured state residents is still far too many. This means that a total of 28.1 million Americans did not have insurance, down 900,000 from the previous year. Still, around 4.5 million Texans lacked health insurance, more than any other state.

Republican Gov. Mary Fallin doesn't support Medicaid expansion, and the issue hasn't been revisited by the state legislature since a bill died a year ago.

Cardinals RB David Johnson to undergo wrist surgery
Johnson (5-11, 203) played in the preseason with the Cardinals after re-signing on July 20 before being released on September 2. This is a awful blow to Johnson's fantasy owners as their top overall pick will be sidelined for a good chunk of the year.

The decrease continues a downward trend Pennsylvania's uninsured rate has been on since 2013, making 2016's 5.6 percent the commonwealth's lowest ever, down from more than 10 percent when the Affordable Care Act was passed, the administration said.

Custer said the uninsured rate for 2016 does not reflect the instability now afflicting the insurance exchanges, which created by the ACA to help people without job-based or government health plans buy coverage.

Job-based insurance continued to be the most common source of coverage. Like the Minnesota's 1332 proposal, Oregon's proposal would reinsure claims that exceeded an attachment point at a specified percentage rate up to a cap, instead of reinsuring cases with particular conditions as Alaska will do in its 1332 waiver program. "There was no statistically significant difference between 2015 and 2016 for any other subtype of health insurance".

Georgia hasn't moved from its position as the state with the third-highest uninsured rate.

In 2016, non-Hispanic Whites had the lowest uninsured rate among race and Hispanic origin groups, at 6.3 percent. Meanwhile, 10.5% of black people and 7.6% of Asians were uninsured.
