Slender Man stabbing victim says defendant obsessed

Because the jury found Weier mentally ill, she is considered not responsible for her actions in the attack.

She was found crawling from woods by a cyclist near the city of Waukesha, a western suburb of Milwaukee.

Van Rybroek said that shared delusional disorder left her unable to control her actions.

A psychologist has testified that a 12-year-old girl suffered from a shared delusion with a friend that led to the stabbing of another girl in a Wisconsin park in 2014.

Jurors asked to see Weier's police interrogation video from 2014. The girls were allegedly trying to please the fictional internet bogeyman Slenderman. She had stab wounds to her arms, legs and torso.

Both of the defendants told detectives they felt they needed to kill their classmate in order to become the mythical character's servants and save their families from him.

Weier, 15, has already admitted to taking part in the crime with Morgan Geyser, but the jury has to decide if Weier was so mentally ill she should be sentenced to a mental institution, instead of prison.

The Journal Sentinel reports Westendorf acknowledged under cross-examination that the condition is rare among two children who are friends.

"She would have an uphill road", McMahon said. "If adults have trouble distinguishing fake news, 12-year-olds will, because their brains can't yet discern or analyze as well". That delusion was so strong, Van Rybroek said, that Weier "couldn't stop herself at the moment it mattered most", and helped stab Leutner even though she knew it was wrong.

Geyser is scheduled for trial in October.

A detective who interviewed Leutner testified in the Waukesha County courtroom that Geyser had been scaring her beforehand with stories about characters from a horror website.

Both girls have pleaded not guilty on grounds of mental illness.

"She believed in Slender Man, she and Morgan Geyser". Westendorf was appointed by a judge to evaluate Weier after her insanity plea.

Anissa Weier trembled as the jury's verdict was read after a week of testimony and some 11 hours of deliberations.

In his questioning of Trussoni, Assistant District Attorney Kevin Osborne focused on the fact Weier didn't clearly tell anyone she was afraid of Slender Man's wrath until after the stabbing, reinforcing his comments in opening statements Tuesday that Weier understood that what they were doing was wrong, but that she went along with the plot to preserve her friendship with Geyser.
