PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Sardar Sarovar Dam in Kevadia colony, located in Narmada district.

After the inauguration on his 67th birthday, Modi dedicated the Sardar Sarovar dam, the biggest in India, to the nation.

India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone for the project on April 5, 1961. On June 17 the gates were closed to increase the height of the dam from 121.92 metres to 138.72 metres, which allows storage of 1.25 MCM.

The "Jal Satyagraha" protest led by Narmada Bachao Aandolan founder Medha Patkar, demanding rehabilitation of the 40,000 families affected by the Sardar Sarovar Dam, entered the third day on Sunday.

Patkar, who staged several hunger-strikes against the protest, told Caravan magazine the Indian government is yet to resettle a majority of the people displaced by the dam project, a claim denied by authorities.

Having visited close to 50 countries in three years of his tenure, the Prime Minister's foreign policies have also garnered much attention.

The Prime Minister said the Statue of Unity would be a fitting tribute to Sardar Patel, and would draw tourists from all over.

Kyrgios will face Steve Darcis tomorrow; if he plays the way he has in Davis Cup matches this year he shouldn't have any problems. Australia's No. 1 player nearly saw his team put on the brink of defeat going into the doubles tilt, but Kyrgios had other ideas.

It said the "so-called development project" comes at an immeasurable cost when considered in terms of the dislocation and debasement caused to countless men, women and children, their hearths and homes, besides the destruction of forests, biodiversity and ecosystems.

The "same World Bank was compelled to give the state a Green Award" following the Gujarat government's rehabilitation work after the 2001 natural disaster in Kutch, said Modi.

"Today, after the inauguration of the Narmada dam, the soul of Sardar Patel must be jubilant, blessing us all. He saw the dream to end water crisis of not only Gujarat but neighbouring States much before I and many of us were born", said the Prime Minister after dedicating the Sardar Sarovar Dam project to the nation. While 57 percent of the electricity generated from the dam goes to Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh receives 27 percent and Gujarat receives 16 percent.

"Not only the farmers of Gujarat, but also of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan will be benefited from this project".

In response to the National Basketball Association, the pro-dam people of Gujarat also launched many agitations citing its benefits.

Earlier, the height of the dam was 121.92 metres.
