According to sources that spoke to Reuters today, "T-Mobile US Inc is close to agreeing (on) tentative terms on a deal to merge with Sprint Corp".

Rumors of a deal have percolated throughout the summer. Both companies saw their stock prices rise on Friday, more so for Sprint, as Wall Street reacted to the news that a deal may be very close.

The sources, citing confidentiality, hinted that a deal could be announced as soon as the end of October once due diligence is completed.

"We believe the DoJ would apply around industry structure and competitive impacts, and the lack of overarching political support in favour of the combination, in our view". About 6,000 people work at Sprint's headquarters in Overland Park. Revenues would top $70 billion and, analysts said, there would be massive scope to cut costs.

Faber relates that T-Mo's chief executive, John Legere, did not respond to a request for comment. And much of that talk has centered on some kind of merger between the nation's two smaller major wireless carriers.

A spokesman for Junqueras confirmed the arrest and said that other Catalan government premises were being searched by the agents. While Catalonia is one of Spain's wealthiest regions, Catalans argue they pay more into the national budget than they get back.

Sprint and T-Mobile have seen their stock enjoy a bump on Friday, with Sprint jumping almost 5 percent and T-Mobile rising about 1.5 percent.

If T-Mobile and Sprint eventually merge, they'd form a wireless carrier comparable to Verizon and AT&T in terms of subscribers (a bit over 130 million).

To tackle the rising competition and the dominance of Verizon and AT&T.

T-Mobile and Sprint's on-again, off-again merger talks may be nearing a conclusion.

Other possible indications of the prospective deal include T-Mobile and Sprint seeing the political and legal climate as friendly, or more hands-off.
