The military man was killed this morning when Pakistani units opened fire on a patrol guarding the LoC, the de facto border in Kashmir, a military spokesman told IANS news agency. "One soldier was injured in the incident", the Army official had said.

According to local media reports, six Pakistani civilians were allegedly killed and 26 others were injured along the Working Boundary in Charwah and Harpal sectors. The Indian DGMO responded that all ceasefire violations in the sector were initiated by Pakistani Rangers and India's BSF troops only responded to them. Pakistani troops returned fire, according to an army statement, but blamed India for initiating the gun battle that took place in the village of Charwa.

On Thursday, at least four civilians, including two women, embraced martyrdom as a result of unprovoked firing of mortars and targeting civilian population along Working Boundary by Indian BSF. According to government data, 110 militants were killed by the Army between January and September previous year (the surgical strikes took place on the morning of September 29, 2016).

The deliberate targeting of civilians is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity and global human rights and humanitarian laws, the statement noted.
