"I have never before publicly commented on situations that are so complex and involve such diverse emotions, but this situation we are experiencing is exceptional", Iniesta wrote in a Facebook post.

The 33-year-old maestro was born in Albacete but moved to Barcelona at 12 and joined La Masia, the club's world-famous academy.

Iniesta has previously tended to do his talking on the field as a fundamental figure in Barca's most successful era. "It is a very special day for me as it allows me to continue dreaming".

"Iniesta signed a lifetime contract with FC Barcelona on Friday, in a deal that will keep him at the club for the rest of his career", Barca said in a statement.

Iniesta denied he was on the brink of signing a new contract last month. "I will follow my body and my head because they will know better than anyone else when it's time [to retire] but it's not something I'm thinking about".

Netflix Raising Price Of Some Plans
The price of the basic plan, which costs $7.99 monthly and delivers standard definition video to one screen, remains the same. Those who try to sign up today for Netflix will see the new, higher prices and not the old pricing.

"He has scored 55 goals for the first team, for which he debuted on October 29th, 2002".

The deal, which has no expiry date, allows Iniesta to decide of his own accord when he will stop playing for Barca and gives him the opportunity to remain with the club in another capacity when he decides to hang up his boots.

Xavi Hernandez made a similar decision in the summer of 2015 when he left the Nou Camp to continue his career in Qatari club al-Sadd SC. Following a failed vote of no confidence against the board, uncertainty around Lionel Messi's contract renewal and resignations over the decision to play Sunday's game against Las Palmas in an empty stadium, they needed a PR win.

However, Iniesta, who has won a 30 trophies in Barca alongside the five-time Ballon d'Or victor, said on Friday: "The club wants Messi to be here, like we all do".

Iniesta has only ever played for Barca during his professional carrer and decorated that by winning eight La Liga titles and the Champions League four times.
