Late Kane Goal Fires Lackluster England to World Cup

A laboured win merely points to England's well-documented efficiency in the qualifying stages.

England players celebrate after the game after qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.

Joe Hart insisted he ignored his critics after delivering a man-of-the-match performance as England qualified for the World Cup.

"They might find it hard to find much love for me with my history with England!".

Nine of Harry Kane's 11 England goals have been scored in the second half (82%), including his 90th minute victor in the last match against Slovenia.

And former England U21 manager Pearce - who won 78 caps for the national team - believes Hart needs a bit more bite with his game, and should emulate one of England's greatest ever stoppers.

Brazilian authorities have said the behind-the-scenes dealings to win the vote amounted to a "criminal organisation". In the scheme investigated, there would be the participation of former Rio de Janeiro's governor Sérgio Cabral.

Hart has been England's go-to goalkeeper in recent years, making 74 appearances for the Three Lions.

England's plodding display meant supporters found attempts to aim paper planes at the pitch more entertaining than matters on the field at sparsely-filled Wembley.

"We are a country that has high expectations and you have to keep delivering", Southgate said. Kane poked home Kyle Walker's cross in the fourth minute of stoppage-time. We have started this season well as a team.

The inclusion of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, not even good enough to start for Liverpool since his transfer from Arsenal's substitutes' bench, underlined the paucity of England's creative department. [The criticism] comes with the scrutiny of playing for England. He was considered one of the finest goalkeepers in the world at the time but his last of four major global tournaments ended in disappointment following a freak goal from Brazil's Ronaldinho in 2002.

Thursday's 1-0 victory over Slovenia may have been underwhelming, but what it lacked in entertainment it made up for in optimism as England secured their passage to next summer's tournament. When Spurs or England loses possession, he becomes the first defender.

While England's display will not raise too many hopes of great things in Russian Federation, at least in Kane they have a striker who gives them a puncher's chance of making progress. It's so different. "But we are always striving to become better, and there is a lot of likeness between how City play and global football".
