Florida State defense has another late fade

The second time meant the ballgame as Rosier completed a 23-yard touchdown pass to Darrell Langham with six seconds left to give the Hurricanes a 24-20 victory and end their seven-game losing streak against the Seminoles.

"I told the guys that we had plenty of time for us to go score".

Florida State took a 3-0 lead into intermission before both team's offenses exploded in the second half. After a lengthy review, the call stood and ultimately sealed FSU's fate. Auden Tate continues to play through a separated shoulder, which limits his mobility while George Campbell played against Miami despite aggravating his core muscle injury suffered last season in practice this week.

"We had a wonderful celebration in the locker room", said Richt, who is 7-1 in road games since taking the job previous year. "We always take one-high man and throw it to the short side".

After struggling to connect with his receivers and move the offense down the field early, true freshman quarterback James Blackman stepped up when needed to in the fourth quarter, finding tight end Ryan Izzo for a 15-yard touchdown which brought FSU to a 10-10 tie with the Hurricanes.

Langham caught the exclamation point, but much of the heavy lifting was done by senior receiver Braxton Berrios.

It is the first time since 1974 that the Seminoles have dropped their first two home games of a season. However, Rosier led the Hurricanes down the field for 75-yard scoring drive to silence the home crowd.

Berrios makes another big play. Blackman finished 17-28 passing for 203 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Cam Akers had his first 100-yard rushing game with 129 yards on 14 carries.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher was complimentary of both teams, congratulating the teams on a hard-fought game. He said that he tries not to focus on the past, but did have some flashbacks to his time at FSU on the drive into the stadium. Most coaches in the country would have played the same end of game scenario conservatively to send the game to overtime, but Richt took his chances on the road and allowed Malik Rosier one last downfield throw with under 10 seconds remaining.

The Super Eagles , who enjoyed an impressive qualifying campaign, top their group with 13 points, six over second-placed Zambia. Egypt will qualify from Group E if they beat Congo later on Saturday - they have not played at the World Cup since 1990.

Richt has not lost a game here since 1991.

After the intermission, Rosier tossed three touchdown passes including the game-winner to Langham; sealing Florida State's fate.

The former Miami quarterback showed off his coaching ability by managing the clock perfectly to help Miami sneak by Florida State 24-20.

"I know everyone is going to be praising us for this win but we have to stay focused", defensive end Chad Thomas said.

ABOUT FLORIDA STATE (1-2, 1-1): The Seminoles defense has been inconsistent but it has the ability to shut down Miami and may need to do so as the team can't afford to get into a shootout with the Hurricanes.

A good roster plus excellent all-around coach is a winning formula for the Hurricanes, and Richt is capable of leading the team back to glory.
