Kate Middleton makes first public appearance since pregnancy announcement

The royals had invited 350 guests from the mental health sector including many of those who appeared in videos promoting William, Kate and Harry's Heads Together campaign, which has been encouraging people to talk about their psychological problems or be a sympathetic ear for those in need.

The Duchess of Cambridge attended a reception at Buckingham Palace this evening to mark World Mental Health Day, marking her first public appearance since the news of her third pregnancy was announced.

The royal couple - who are already parents to Prince George and Princess Charlotte - have been joined by Prince Harry at the reception recognising mental health workers.

Although still reportedly dealing with severe morning sickness, Kate worked the event like a pro, greeting dignitaries while wearing a long dress by Temperley that showed a hint of a baby bump.

If Kate Middleton is absent since the announcement of her pregnancy, her return has recently been announced.

This is Princess Kate's first public appearance in six weeks.

Normal morning sickness affects around 70 per cent of pregnant women, and causes some degree of vomiting and discomfort commonly during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Her condition, known as hyperemesis gravidarum, forced her to be hospitalised in 2012 while pregnant with George, aged four.

He said it was why subsequent generations found it so hard to talk about their feelings.

Harry said it was time to take the awareness to the next stage and take it into "new partnerships to support better conversations in schools and workplaces".
