Fire Prevention Week is this week - October 8-14, 2017.

Fire prevention week is in full swing, and this year's theme is every second counts, know 2 ways out.

Local fire departments will be visiting elementary schools, participating in fire drills and promoting fire prevention and protection in the home. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), a home structure fire was reported every 86 seconds in 2015, with about 80% of all USA fire deaths annually occurring at home.

"Smoke and fire spread fast", he said, "You really have to plan before". The volunteers also use the time to educate household members on basic fire safety and the importance of fire escape plans. Conduct one at night and one during the day with everyone in your home, and practice using different ways out.

While inside, children learn how to dial 911 and what to say, and what to do if they see items that may cause a fire - such as a damaged electric cord in the house.

Spain threatens direct action if Catalonia declares independence as crisis deepens
Catalonia's secessionist leader is under pressure to abandon plans to declare independence as his statement is moved to Tuesday. Rajoy was forced to apologize on Friday, but many in Catalan say the crackdown has only fueled their desire for independence.

A lader truck from the Glassboro Fire Department sits at the scene of a house fire on Monday. He said families also should have a two way out evacuation plan in place in case of a fire. Go to neighboring residences and call emergency services, and most importantly, never go back inside a burning building. The Little Rock Fire Department offers smoke alarms to Little Rock residents who need one.

Over the last five years, in 36 per cent of fatal home fires, there was no smoke alarm warning (in 18% there was no smoke alarm and in 18% the smoke alarm did not operate). The 2014 code has identified that as a major issue and now requires all new residential dwellings to have a smoke alarm on every level and in every bedroom.

"You can teach them how to get out of a window; you can teach them how to go under the door crawl under the smoke". Reliable, properly placed smoke detectors are vital to keeping your family safe.

Between 100 and 200 attend the Northglenn Safety Fair and around 200 to 300 typically attend the Fire Safety Fair hosted at Flatiron Crossing Mall.
