Arsenal are set to be without Shkodran Mustafi for Saturday's Premier League match against Watford as the defender's thigh injury continues to be assessed, according to widespread reports on Tuesday.

The centre back was forced off the pitch after just 36 minutes during Germany's 5-1 win over Azerbaijan on Sunday with a hamstring injury.

Mustafi injured his thigh on worldwide duty with Germany and it was not clear how long he would be sidelined for until manager Arsene Wenger confirmed today that it was approximately one month.

Jack Wilshere is getting closer to challenging for a starting spot but I think Wenger will bide his time with the England worldwide so he'll remain on the bench along with Mohamed Elneny.

"Jack is in the best form I've seen him in for a long time", Wenger said.

'He didn't play in their first game and we lost him in the second - we have to cope with that now'. I will decide that tomorrow. He worked quite hard physically, he looks like he is capable of playing if he survives the test.

"Koscielny will have a test tomorrow", Wenger added. At the moment, he's not available.

Koscielny has been managing the problem for several seasons and, although he had not joined in full training at the start of the week, the intention is for him to resume with the squad ahead of Saturday. "He trained on his own and the first signs are positive, so we made a decision to give him a test tomorrow".

Wenger said contract talks with German global Ozil, who is in the final year of his deal, were progressing well.

Another player that picked up an injury during the break was summer signing Sead Kolasinac, but Wenger doesn't expect the Bosnian international's hip problem to be too serious.
