In her acceptance speech, Ardern noted she wanted to build a government "for all New Zealanders." and that she felt "privileged and humbled" to be in new position.

When she takes office, she faces a fractious coalition of Labour MPs, Greens and the nine MPs in Mr Peters's nationalist New Zealand First party, which campaigned against immigration, land and... "We said we could do this, we will do this".

At the time, Bishop and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull treated the issue as a diplomatic stoush between Australia and New Zealand that put the Trans-Tasman relationship "at risk".

Winston Peters, leader of New Zealand First party, addresses media in Wellington, New Zealand, on October 19, 2017. "We said we could do this, we will do this".

Peters told a media conference that he made the decision only 15 minutes before the briefing and Labor leader Jacinda Ardern learned the news through media live broadcast.

But Ms Ardern has denied her government is a "coalition of the losers" and says she is hopeful it will see out its term.

Dallas tabbed as 2018 NFL Draft host
During its three days, Draft programming claimed five out of the top 10 spots among sports events, including the #1 spot. The NFL will put on quite a show with the draft and they are expecting record crowds to show up for the event.

According to Ardern, the Labor will convene on Friday before a three-day long weekend to decide ministerial portfolios and hold a swearing-in ceremony next week. The back of Jacinda Ardern's baseball card makes for good reading, and you can now add "youngest prime minister of New Zealand since 1856" to it.

"In electing their third woman to serve as Prime Minister, New Zealanders have again provided an inspiration for women and girls around the world".

British Prime Minister Theresa May had also been in touch to offer her congratulations and Ardern was scheduled to speak to her on Friday night where she thought they would discuss issues of trade and security.

"I certainly look forward to working with the counterpart when the new Foreign Minister of New Zealand is appointed".

"More than a century after the first Anzacs fought and fell together, Australia and New Zealand's friendship is stronger than ever".
