Essential Phone price drops to $499, but not for long

If you're ready to let the headphone jack and the microSD card slot go, and you don't mind putting a little more effort into your camera shots, the phone becomes a much more reasonable offering at $499, even with the missing features.

Last week one of my Twitter followers sent me his Essential Phone to test out since I was very interested in this phone.

The Essential Phone by Android founder Andy Rubin was launched in May 2017 and after many problems and delays it went on sale in September at $699 around ₹46,000, but just with the name of Andy Rubin you can not win against competitors like Apple, Samsung and even OnePlus and Xiaomi.

The Essential phone's camera lags behind those found on rivals like the iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy phones, but for $499 some tradeoffs are expected when compared to pricier phones. The offer is valid only till December 17, 2017 where buyers will get $200 friends and family credit. However, the company will launch a similar promo in Canada as well, although details aren't yet available. Two months ago, if you wanted to buy the Essential Phone, you were looking at a price of $699 (~£530).

Because the Texas law was enacted recently, it is not yet clear how the state or cities will enforce the anti-BDS measure. The city of Dickinson shared a " Hurricane Harvey Repair Grant Application and Agreement" on its website this week.

In addition, Essential Phone has 4GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage and 3040 mAh battery.

It's easy to imagine that the price drop is a response to those numbers, but Essential claims that the low cost and word of mouth are more effective than "a massive TV campaign to capture your attention".

"At Essential, one of our driving principles is that premium craftsmanship and the latest technologies shouldn't be for the few". Also, the price-cut is only available for unlocked devices available for sale on Essential's website. We expect it to change in the next couple of hours.

Following Essential's lead, a price cut from its carrier partners may soon be introduced.
