Twitter deletes Trump's account - but it's not gone yet

The hoopla refused to die down even after Trump's account was restored. For a full 10-11 minutes thousands of Twitter users were shocked, wondering if the President suddenly chose to stop his use of the social media platform and delete his account as well as all 36,300 tweets that he has accumulated over the last several years. But you can bet the company will be looking internally at ways to ensure it doesn't happen again, no matter how justified the action may seem.

This morning we learned from Twitter that an employee on their last day with the company actually did delete Trump's account.

There have been calls to ban Trump from Twitter, a platform the president often uses to issue controversial statements and criticise his adversaries.

On Thursday evening, visitors to Mr Trump's page for a short time could only see a message that read "Sorry, that page doesn't exist!"

Trump was back on Twitter after his brief and accidental time-out. Twitter said it would be conducting a full internal review.

The victims were in the same area of the store, but it is unclear if they knew each other. An anonymous tipster spotted Ostrem's vehicle not far from his apartment at around 8 a.m.

Trump, who has almost 42 million Twitter followers, responded to the temporary loss of his account by boasting about his wide reach on the service.

- Security concerns -"It is shocking that some random Twitter employee could shut down the president's account". Many Twitter users sent out screenshots of the temporarily nonexistent page.

The company has suspended other high-profile accounts in the past for violating its terms and conditions.

Trump has other accounts he can tweet from besides his personal account, which has 41 million followers. "If an ordinary citizen tweeted some of what he tweeted, I would think some of them would be taken down".

A spokesperson for the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
