Sikhs celebrate Guru Nanak Jayanti with traditional reverence

His birth is celebrated world wide as Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti or Gurpurab on the full-moon day in the month of Katak, which falls during the months of October-November.

"During his lifetime, Guru Nanak travelled extensively promoting equality, diversity, compassion and tolerance, which became the core principles of Sikhism". Bansal, while joining the Gurpurb celebrations to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev on Saturday, visited Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Sector 19 where he paid obeisance and interacted with devotees.

Tight security arrangements were made around all leading Sikh shrines in Punjab. On this day Sikh community people share happiness, candies to their loved one.

The women, originally from Phagwara, Jalandhar city of Indian Punjab, shared that people in Pakistan have more respect and love for the Sikhism founder than in India.
