Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has revealed that Paulo Gazzaniga only learned shortly before the match that he would be making his debut against Crystal Palace.

With the result, Tottenham have capped off a fine week at Wembley Stadium, after they dominated Real Madrid 3-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday before their fixture with their league opponents.

He told BT Sport: "I was nervous for the first three seconds, and after that you get the atmosphere".

Asked if he wanted to stake his claim for the number one jersey, Gazzaniga said: "Keep calm and step by step, little by little". I can not translate that emotion to the players, I can not translate that emotion to my chairman, to create the trust if you don't really believe.

Dier was quoted as saying by the BBC: "We knew it would be hard today with players missing, but we wanted to keep the momentum going".

The bantamweight champion admits that if he were to fight at flyweight, dropping the ten pounds would require a lifestyle change. Dillashaw, TKO, round 2. "[The bantamweight title] should've been around my waist the whole time", Dillashaw said.

Two minutes later, Spurs were again thankful to the alert Gazzaniga, who made a reflex stop from Luka Milivojevic's header - and within moments of that save they had taken the lead.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson brought on Bakary Sako for Joel Ward, but as his side pressed forward Son missed a chance to seal it, firing into the side netting when one-on-one with Speroni late on.

Son could have made the game safe in the final 10 minutes but dragged his shot wide when well-placed but it mattered little.

"At the other end I thought we had quite a few moments of our own so it's a bitter blow to lose the game 1-0".
