Alcohol may have led to FSU fraternity pledge's death, police say

Andrew Coffey, 20, a Florida State University student and 2015 graduate of Pompano Beach High School has been confirmed dead after what appeared to be a party.

"For this suspension to end, there will need to be a new normal for Greek Life at the university", university president John Thrasher said in a statement.

Andrew Coffey was found dead Friday morning after an off-campus fraternity party Thursday night in Tallahassee.

No arrests have been made, said police spokesman David Northway, who added that several people were being questioned in connection with the death.

Pi Kappa Phi suspended all chapter operations and told members of the FSU chapter to cooperate with the investigation. "There must be a new culture for our students and they must participate in that culture". After the February hazing death of 19-year old Timothy Piazza, Penn State suspended fraternities and sororities from holding social activities during the spring semester.

They will be allowed to remain as residents in their fraternity or sorority house and will have meal service. Investigators on Friday bagged alcohol bottles scattered around the porch as evidence.

Tallahassee Police were called to a home on Buena Vista Drive at about 10:25 a.m. Friday after reports of an unresponsive person.

He also put a ban in place on alcohol at Recognized Student Organization events that will last as lon gas the fraternity and sorority suspension.
