"Chelsea Football Club today announces that technical director Michael Emenalo has made a decision to stand down from his role", the club said in a statement. The move has come about reportedly due to personal reasons, with Emenalo keen to spend more time with his family and especially his three children.

Conte won the Premier League title in his first season with the club but his second - with the added Champions League fixtures - has been a tense affair so far.

Emanalo, it has been reported, first tried to leave Chelsea in the summer, has commented on his departure, telling the Guardian "This has been a very hard decision to make, but one I believe is right for both myself and my family, and the club. I wish Chelsea every success and look forward to following the club's future triumphs from afar".

It was initially believed by many that Emenalo wasn't getting on with Conte, and footage of the Italian leaving Stamford Bridge in a joyous frenzy after beating Manchester United yesterday seemed to fuel that.

Asked about the club's loan programme and whether Christensen is a good example of the work being done, Emenalo - who stepped down from his position on Monday - told Chelsea TV: "Absolutely".

Former Super Eagles player, Michael Emenalo has quit as Chelsea's technical director.

Conte was the 10th manager appointed during Emenalo's time in west London and the former has been highly critical of Chelsea's transfer activity this summer.

In 2011, Emenalo was promoted from assistant first-team coach to technical tirector, a role which he has held ever since - until now.
