BMW M3 CS 2018 revealed as limited-run model

Standard equipment includes a seven-speed double clutch transmission complete with its own oil cooler that allows the vehicle to be driven like a pure automatic, say around town, or as a manual when the road ahead looks exciting.

One of our frustrations with the M4 CS, the lack of conventional door pulls, won't be an issue with the M3. The latter is courtesy of the M Driver's Package, which comes standard on the M3 CS.

Oh yeah, the M3 CS will only come with BMW's seven-speed DCT gearbox, just like the M4 CS. Everything about the BMW M3 CS is created to make the sports sedan lighter, quicker, and faster than the standard model, going zero-to-60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds on its way to a top speed of 174 miles per hour. Despite the performance enhancements, BMW says the M3 CS will still only consume 8.3 litres of fuel per 100km on the combined cycle. That's 10hp and 37lb ft more than the Competition Package for those of you playing at home. BMW says that the power bump means the M3 CS hits 60mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 174 miles per hour. Highlights include the Adaptive M suspension, DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system (with M Dynamic Mode), Active M Differential and fade-resistant M compound brakes (four-piston callipers at the front and two-piston callipers at the rear).

To turn the M3 into the lighter M3 CS, the roof, hood, front splitter, rear decklid spoiler and other body parts are made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic. These items contribute to a 10-kg weight saving over the regular M3.

Five paint colours are on offer, including "San Marino Blue", "Lime Rock Grey, "Frozen Dark Blue II" and "Black Sapphire" metallics, as well as the no-cost 'Alpine White". It rides on gorgeous 19-inch wheels at the front with 20s in the rear, and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires are optional.

As for how the auto rides and handles, numerous suspension components are formed from lightweight but strong aluminum to minimise unsprung weight. Besides that, this specially tuned M3 also gets its own unique suspension set up, as well as special interior touches to enhance the car's exclusivity.

Inside there's still Pro Nav, Climate and Harmon Kardon Sound despite the hardcore nature, M Sport seats, leather, Alcantara and a chunk of "CS" badges.
